William "Billy" Stickel Obituary

William Henry "Billy" Stickel of Nanjemoy, MD passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2023. Born on December 13, 1946 in Washington DC. He was the son of William Henry Stickel Sr. and Mary DeMarr Stickel.

Billy was preceded in death by his father William, mother Mary and brother Thomas "Allie" Stickel.

Billy is survived by his wife of 39 years, Katie Willett Stickel. His children, Raymond Stickel (Lori), Christina Justice (Jeff); grandchildren Brent Stickel, Jessi Goldsmith and Chloe Justice, and great granddaughter Sadie Goldsmith. Billy is also survived by his brother Richard Stickel (Nancy) of Missouri. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from La Plata High School in La Plata MD. After high school he worked at the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head. Then he worked for Corp of Engineers as a crane operator. Billy then went on to start many successful businesses with his wife Katie, including Wildes-Spirit Design & Printing, that his son Ray now owns and continues to operate.

Billy loved all motorsports.  He was an avid circle track and drag strip racer. His love of racing was passed onto his son, Ray who became a motocross racer. He was his biggest fan and supporter. He also loved sports photography and enjoyed shooting local and national motocross events with his daughter Christina. From Texas to Las Vegas to Florida the father daughter team caught amazing shots of motocross racers of all ages.

Billy and his wife Katie would take a yearly cross county trip, exploring all parts of the United States over the years. His favorite destination though was Las Vegas, he loved going there to gamble but also taking his family and friends and introducing them to the nightlife of Vegas! He loved gold hunting in the mountains, streams and deserts out west, looking for meteorites in the desert, and tracing history trails of explorers like Lewis and Clark. He had many fun gold hunting trips with his family!  He would say he was born 150 years too late because he loved the mountains and deserts in the west and would have preferred living as a mountain man and a cowboy in the mid 1800s. He enjoyed hunting for old bottles and ink wells, and antiquing for oil company pieces from the past. He was always studying about his hobbies and passions to learn more and more.

The last few years Roo, his grand dog was his best friend and walking partner. He would walk miles with Roo at Friendship Park and on the farm. Billy enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren passing on his love of all the various interests he had. He touched so many lives and will be missed by all.
