William George Johnson, age 99, Marbury, passed away December 14, 2024, WWII and Korean War Veteran.
Born March 21, 1925, to Charles Morris Johnson and Elizabeth Hall Johnson in Arlington, VA. He was the 5th of 8 siblings. He is survived by his wife Margaret of 72 years, son Ricky L. Johnson and his wife Bonnie, daughter Patricia "Patsy" Palmer, brother Charles H. Johnson of VA., grand-daughter Jennifer Allen, and great grandson Tyler.
George attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA. In June 1942 he enlisted in the Navy. After a short basic training, he was assigned to the battleship South Dakota which took him to the South Pacific for the next 3 years. Remaining in the Navy after WWII was over, he was sent to the Naval Powder Factory, Indian Head, MD where he spent the next 3 years. George served 10 years in the Navy, and 2 years as a civilian before getting married to Margaret J. Grinder.
He enlisted in the D.C. Air National Guard where he served full time and retired as a Master Seargent September 1982.
George enjoyed activities with his immediate family, dancing and traveling. His love for the water and flying never faded. He was an accomplished canvas oil painter.
UPDATE: Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025. Friends will be received at 10:30 AM at the funeral home with military honors and funeral services at 11 AM.
