Sheila Marion Orton, 90, of Indian Head, Maryland, passed away on January 25, 2025, surrounded by her family.  Sheila is survived by her daughter, Sharon Orton, and son, Eric Orton.  She was proceeded in death by her husband, Glenn Orton, and daughter, Sandra Chagaris.

Sheila was born in Winchendon, Massachusetts, and was an accomplished artist, studying art in Boston following high school.  She moved to Washington, DC in 1954 and began a 10-year career working at the Pentagon for the Department of the Navy and the Department of the Air Force.  She later worked 21 years for the Charles County Board of Education, at Indian Head Elementary School, as an instructional aide and secretary.  Upon retirement, Sheila resumed her art studies at CSM, taking painting and sculpture classes.

Sheila loved the town of Indian Head and served as PTA President and President of the NOS Swim Team.  She was a natural leader with an easy disposition and the ability to make friends wherever she went.  She and her husband enjoyed opera and classical music, with regular trips to the Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap.  She was a loving wife, mother and friend, and will be missed by all her knew her.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM.  Burial will be scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
