Ronald "Tom" Thomas Young Obituary

Ronald Thomas “Tom” Young, 88, of Marbury, Maryland passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, surrounded by family. Tom was born on June 4, 1936, in Holly, Michigan to Pauline (nee Shields) and William Young. He grew up with cousins on his grandparent’s dairy farm which instilled in him a tireless work ethic.


After graduating from Holly Area High School, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955. He worked primarily as an explosive ordnance disposal technician and instructor during his 23 years of active-duty service. Tom retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief and began a civilian career as an equipment specialist at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Maryland. Tom retired from the government in 1996 and became a contractor for several years. After his final retirement, Tom and his wife, Barbara, enjoyed traveling the United States in their camper and annual fishing trips to upstate Michigan.


Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara (nee Holly), children, David John Reese, Holly Reese Frazier, Miles Randolph Reese, Leslie Ann Bartenfelder (Steve), and Thomas Andrew Reese (Tracy), 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, his close cousin and best friend, Dick Shields (Karen), and his beloved dog, Katie.


A military service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 11:15 AM (arrive no earlier than 11 AM) at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland; followed by a Celebration of Life at the Indian Head Moose Lodge.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lab Rescue LRCP or a charity of your choice.
