Ronald James Wright Obituary

Ronald James Wright of Waldorf, Maryland died on June 28, 2025 in the comfort of his home under his loved one’s care and his beloved cat, Blue.  He was born in Charles County, Maryland on July 4, 1957.

Ronnie was employed with the Charles County Department of Public Works for 30 years, retiring in 2019 as the Traffic Safety Superintendent of the Roads Division.  He was a founding member of the Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department (NVRSFD), serving over the years as President as well as Fire Chaplain.  His passion for helping members of his community officially began at age 15 as a Junior Firefighter in Marbury, Maryland.  He eventually became a member of Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, before becoming a founding member of NVRSFD.  In addition, he was an ordained Minister and Notary.  He took great joy in not only volunteering for the NVRSFD, but also for the Charles County Torch Run for individuals with special needs, and as a volunteer at Charles County Regional Medical Center.  Outside of community roles, he enjoyed crafting, fishing, traveling, and experiencing life with great friends.

He was a loving father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend to many.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his son Christopher James Wright; mother Susan Collins; father Grover Wright; and siblings Joe Finley, Danny Wood, and David Wood.  Ronnie is survived by his pet cat, Blue; daughters Kara Dove (Jamie) and Ashley Wright (Daniel Kagarise); grandchildren Benny, Kendall, and Nikolai; great granddaughter Kinley; his siblings Jack, Sonny (Dianne); Kathie (Jimmy), and Georgia McCoy.

The family will receive friends at the Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department on Monday, July 7, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with Fireman’s Prayers at 7 PM.  Funeral service will be held at Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 9:30 AM with procession at 10 AM to Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, Maryland.
