Ronald Van Tassel Obituary

Ronald R. Van Tassel of Indian Head, Maryland passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Hospice House in Waldorf, Maryland.

A man 100 years born too late.  Born in Washington, D.C. he grew up in Chincoteague, Virginia with a fishing pole in one hand and a gun in the other.  He attended Atlantic High School and was a star athlete in football and track but loved fishing and hunting above all else.  As a dependent of a military family he came to Indian Head in 1958 where he attended Lackey High School and continued to participate in athletics but his passion was in the great outdoors.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1962 and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada.  Upon his exit out of active military the family returned to Maryland and he was employed at Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base, Clinton, MD working on the flight line to Air Force One.

He focused his attention on the great outdoors and traveling when he retired as a civil servant to fulfill his hunting bucket list.  His love of fishing, trapping, and hunting took him to many places around the world to participate in the ultimate experiences.  He loved telling stories of his experiences in the wilderness and also lots of those corny jokes.

He is the late son of Raymond and Delores Van Tassel and his late wife Karen Thompson Van Tassel.  He is survived by his daughter, Lori Ann Van Tassel de Castillo and his son, Kyle Van Tassel.  Sisters Karen Johnson and Pamela Van Tassel.  Son-in-law Renan Castillo.  Grandchildren, Grace and Gabrielle Castillo and his loving companion Peggy Sprouse.

Due to COVID-19 a memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 17, 2002.  Friends will be received at 4 PM until time of services at 5 PM.
