Raymond Woods, Jr. Obituary

Raymond Franklin Woods Jr was born on June 23, 1968, to Mary Bee Penn and Raymond Franklin Woods Sr, at Prince Georges Hospital Center in Cheverly Maryland. His mother later married Joseph Marini who raised and loved Raymond as his very own son. He departed this life on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

Raymond received his education in the Prince George’s County school system. Raymond was a family man who came from a family of 9 children. He loved spending time with his sisters and brothers and watching his nieces and nephews grow into amazing adults and have families of their own.

Raymond was employed by his brother Billy at W.T. Farrell Floor Services.  He later worked with his brother Tommy at Tommy Floor Services where he was employed until his death.  He also helped Mike at Joe & Sons Flooring & Handyman Services. He also was employed by We Pave, hanging signs to promote the business. Raymond took pride in his work and enjoyed his brothers whether it was working, relaxing, or just talking junk with them. He also enjoyed playing pool, going to the racetrack, pitching horseshoes, getting tattoos and drinking a cold brew.

Raymond welcomed his first daughter, Brittany when he was 26 years of age. He enjoyed talking to her and his grandchildren.

Not only was Raymond born into a big family, he also married into one. Raymond’s wife Joyce whom he was married to for 24 years had 7 children of her own. He loved each one of them as his own. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They affectionately called him Pop-Pop. He would always video chat, text or call them. They enjoyed coming to Pop-Pop and Granny’s house to ride the moped, the lawn mower, and getting cars that Pop-Pop collected and gave them. Everyone always heard about his “DJ” and she’s tattooed all over her Pop-Pop. If it wasn’t DJ, he’d talk about Greg, Kieala, his “Cookie Monster” Legend and Baby Journee’. He loved all but he had special ones whom he favored and they were proud to tell everyone also. Raymond’s niece, Baby Rae and Tank the dog was special to him as well. Rae loved Raymond and Tank followed Raymond around everywhere and knew when he wasn’t around. Everyone enjoyed seeing and spending time with him. You might have seen him at the racetrack with Joe Stone or somewhere hanging out with David and Brittany. When his family called, he’d be there. Whether it was a party, house sitting, working, or just relaxing, he was always there for everyone. He will surely be missed by all that interacted with him.

Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Woods Sr, his parents Mary Bee Penn-Marini and Joseph Marini and his grandmother Mary Hazel Penn.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Joyce Woods, 8 siblings: Doris Pyles (Sammy), Kathy Woods (Don), Linda Farrell (Billy), Chris Marini (Paula), Tina Williams (Eric), Mike Marini (Tina) Roger Marini (Breanna) and Donna Alwine (Dave). His 8 children: Brittany, John, Jason, Lester, Ethel, Marvin, Towanda, David. 27 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
