Ralph "Al" Alphonso Shives

Ralph Alphonso Shives, 89, of Marbury, MD died on December 9, 2019.  Born on April 7, 1930 in Marbury, he was the son of the late Walter Shives and the late Aura Delozier.

On April 28, 1951 he married the love of his life—the late Doris J. Shives—and lived as an electrician for the US Federal Government.

During his lifetime Al was a devoted husband, a caring father, and a loving friend.  He loved to garden.  He served as a Tech Corporal in the U.S. Army in England from October 1951 to October 1953.  His church family of Pisgah United Methodist Church always gave him great joy.  He was very proud of his children, his grandchildren, and his extended family.

In addition to his wife and parents, Al was preceded in death by his sisters Clara Russell, Agnes Myers, and Astrid Lucas; his brothers Ray Shives and Otha Shives; his special niece Patricia Williams; and his grandchild Kermit Saunders.

Al is survived by his brother Lindy Shives (Lynn); his daughters Brenda McDonnell (Lawrence) and Cherie O’Brien (Patrick); his grandchildren James Saunders, Loletta Bell (Joshua), and Hannah O’Brien; his special nephew Robert Botchie; his special niece Sandra Johnson; and his great-grandchildren Alyssa Smith, Tyler Bell, and Sarah Bell.

Visitation will be held at Pisgah United Methodist Church on Friday, December 13, 2019 from 9:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM.
