Nancy (Mattingly) McGuigan of Indian Head, MD passed away and returned to her home in heaven on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. She was 87 years old. She was a graduate of Archbishop Neale High School in LaPlata, MD. Upon graduation, Nancy worked at the Charles County Courthouse in LaPlata, MD, then at the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Washington, DC where she was the youngest clerk in the court's history.
She was a beloved mother and caregiver, always helping out in her daughters' classrooms, field trips and caring for Maria's cystic fibrosis. Nancy was the sacristan at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Indian Head, MD from the time she was a teenager until she was 81 years old. Her grandparents gave the land on which the church and rectory stand to the diocese in 1908. She was the unofficial historian for the Town of Indian Head and was very proud of her family’s role in the church.
Nancy leaves behind her three daughters, Maria Mattingly McGuigan, Kathleen McGuigan Peter, and Jennie Lee McGuigan. She will also be fondly remembered by her granddaughters Veronica Peter and Madeline Griffin & Madeline's husband, Paul as well as their children [Nancy's great-grandchildren] Marcus, Genevieve and Roan. She is predeceased by her husband of 37 years, William (Bill) McGuigan, the first Mayor of the Town of Indian Head, her brother Charlie Mattingly, Jr. and her parents Charles and Madeline Mattingly.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 2 PM-4 PM and 6 PM-8 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM.
