Mildred Shives Willett, 94, of Indian Head, Maryland, went home to rest with her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, May 20, 2024. She was blessed with a long, successful life as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mildred, affectionately called Millie by family and close friends, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 18, 1929, to Jacob and Mary Shives. She married her husband of 72 years, Arthur Eugene Willett, on September 1, 1951. She began her career at Acacia Mutual Insurance Company, going on to work for and retire from the Federal Government at the Navy Yard. In her retirement, Mildred worked as Secretary at Marbury Baptist Church in Marbury, Maryland for 20 years.
Millie leaves behind her husband, Arthur Eugene Willett; son, Gordon Willett (Barbara) of Ocala, Florida; daughter, Nancy Hallock (Charles) of Accokeek, Maryland; granddaughter, Virginia King (Tim); grandson, Michael Willett (Tiffany); granddaughter, Melanie Hardin (James Jr.); and great-grandchildren Kelly King, Megan King, Ashton Wegand, Aaron Hardin, and Hailey Hardin.
Mildred will be remembered for her love of Jesus and the many years she taught her women’s Sunday School class at Marbury Baptist Church. She was creative and loved to work with her hands. Millie handcrafted many crocheted blankets, scrapbooks of her family and life events, as well as her own greeting cards. Mildred and Arthur’s home was always surrounded by the colorful blooms that Millie tended to carefully year after year. Additionally, she loved watching and feeding birds in her yard.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 11 AM until time of funeral service at 12 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather for a repast meal at Marbury Baptist Church, Marbury, Maryland at 3 PM following a private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Marbury Baptist Church, PO Box 528, Marbury, MD 20658.
