Mary Rose Smith (née Quinlan) passed away on September 4, 2024, at the age of 83 in Indian Head, Maryland. Born on September 9, 1940, in Washington, D.C., she spent her childhood and early years in the nation's capital before settling in Maryland, where she would live out her days surrounded by friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Smith, son Donald Smith, daughter Mary Ann Claggett, granddaughter Melissa Claggett and grandson Robbie Claggett.

She is survived by her son Allen Smith, grandchildren Tommy Claggett, Kevin Smith, Christopher Smith, Christina Claggett, Allison Biagi, and Alex Claggett and many great grandchildren. 

Mary retired from a fulfilling career in Personnel at the Naval Research Laboratory, where she was known for her dedication and warmth towards her colleagues. Beyond her professional life, she was a woman of many interests, including solving crossword puzzles, playing bingo, and visiting with friends, activities that brought her much joy and helped forge lasting bonds within her community.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 10 AM until time of service at 12 noon, interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
