Marie Madeline Keys

Marie Madeline Keys was born on March 17, 1927 to the late William and Lena (Barbour) Johnson of Ironsides, MD.  On December 15, 2018 our beloved angel gained her wings and transitioned from her earthly home to her new heavenly home.

Marie was loved by all and lived a long beautiful life for 91 years.  She was affectionately known as Mother Keys.  Marie was a faithful member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith and locally worshiped in Ironsides, MD.  

Marie was educated in the Charles County Public School System.  She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.  She was head of the Kitchen staff at her church.  Marie loved baking and cooking.  Though she could cook anything, two of her specialties dishes were her baked beans made from scratch, and her famous cornbread, and boy did they taste good.  We are going to miss her cornbread as well as her baked beans as she kept these recipes a tight secret, in fact she kept them so secretive, that she took them with her to her new heavenly home. Marie’s cornbread was so good, she was given the nickname "sister cornbread".   She enjoyed sewing and being around family and friends. 

Marie leaves to cherish, her beloved husband of 68 years, Jessie A. Keys, four loving daughters, Suzette Keys, Toni Washington, Shirley Keys and Brenda Miller, nine Grandchildren and fifteen Great-Grandchildren, a devoted niece that was like her daughter (Virginia Wills) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, William, Robert, Harry and Thomas and four sisters, Mary, Pearline, Rosine and Henrietta.
