Margaret Jeanette Johnson, age 91, Marbury, passed away September 10, 2025, peacefully in her home.
Margaret was born at home in the family farmhouse in Marbury on November 29, 1933, to Thomas Earl Grinder and Minnie Rison Grinder. Margaret was the youngest of 4 children.
She is preceded by her sister, Dottie Golding and brother, Melvin Grinder. She is survived by her son Ricky L. Johnson and his wife Bonnie, daughter Patricia “Patsy” Palmer, sister Mary “Deanie” Fairfax (105 years old), granddaughter Jennifer Allen, husband Mike, and great-grandson Tyler.
Margaret graduated as Valedictorian from Lackey High School in Indian Head, MD. She attended Charles County Community College evenings and earned her associate degree.
She was married to her devoted husband, William George Johnson, for 72 years before losing him December 14, 2024.
Margaret drove a school bus for several years while her children were young. Margaret was the first female school bus driver for Charles County. After moving from Potomac Heights to Marbury, she began a career at the Naval Ordnance Station, retiring May 28, 1993, as a Computer Specialist.
Margaret enjoyed boating and water skiing on her beloved Mattawoman Creek, as well as traveling. She loved hosting her many friends and family members at the house for water activities, volleyball and cookouts. Even after her accident, she made sure to visit with classmates for lunch and always kept in touch with friends and family.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 10:30 AM until time of memorial service at 11 AM. In her memory, donate to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation or a charity of your choice.
