Lydia Prebble Obituary

Lydia Marguerite (Mueller) Prebble, 89, of Bryans Road, MD, went to be with the Lord on November 16, 2019.  She was born and raised in Wurtzburg, Germany, the city of Love.  Her father and brother (Walter Mueller) were killed in the British bombing of Wurtzburg during WWII.

During the reconstruction of Wurtzburg, Lydia met the love of her life, a handsome American soldier, Reid Prebble, Sr.  Reid literally swept her off her feet as they loved to dance together.  The two married and spent nearly 60 years together before Reid’s death in 2010.

Lydia was a devoted military wife traveling in support of her husband across the United States to states including Alaska, New Mexico, Arizona, and Georgia before settling in Maryland.   When her youngest of seven children started school, she took a job in the cafeteria of JC Parks Elementary School, where she enjoyed interacting with the children.  She had an infectious laugh and bright smile, she never knew a stranger.  Many will remember her as the lady who rode her bike around Bryans Road as she never got a driver’s license.

She loved people and had a generous spirit.  Her love of knitting and crocheting allowed her to make many wonderful gifts such as afghans, scarfs, kitchen towels, pot holders, baby booties, and teddy bear dresses.  She also loved to be outside spending time in her garden, and she took a lot of pride in growing her beautiful flowers.  Her family and friends will also remember her delicious meals and baked goods such as her Spritz cookies, zucchini bread and pound cake.

She was a long time member of Grace Baptist Church in Bryans Road and a current member of Indian Head Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and brother, Lydia is preceded in death by her husband Reid and son Steven Prebble.  She is survived by her children Bernhard Prebble of Bryans Road, Gladys Robinson of Fairfax, VA, Diane Deavers (Calvin) of Waldorf, MD, Reid Prebble, Jr. (Judy) of Timonium, MD, Ruth Sharpe of Bryans Road, and Joseph Prebble (Sara) of Pomfret, MD.  She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Stephen, Matthew, Sean, Emily, Daniel, Alex, Andrew, Darren and Katie and 4 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 10:15 AM.
