Luther Richard Huffman, 90 of Marbury, Maryland passed away at his home on November 7, 2023. Luther was born September 3, 1933 in Warrenton, Virginia to Connie and Daisy Huffman.
He married the love of his life Catherine Sydnor on March 21, 1961. They shared 46 beautiful years together, and with their union brought them two loving sons.
Throughout Luther’s life, he has always been known throughout the community as a hard worker, and someone who was always willing to help. Luther owned Maryland Fence Company for many decades with his sons at his side. He also owned and operated a tire business out of his home, which was how he earned the nickname of “The Tireman”. Later in his life, he owned the Marbury Service Center for multiple years, and also had a shop at the Charlotte Hall Farmers Market. He was always a dedicated, hard worker for the entirety of his life.
On top of all of his hard work over the years, he was a pillar in his community. A kind and generous man who donated several vehicles over the years to the Tenth District Volunteer Fire Department for training purposes. Whenever it snowed, you could always count on Luther to plow your driveway for you in the Marbury and Pisgah area.
Luther and his wife had a shared love for all animals. He was always quick to care for and take in unwanted or homeless pets consisting of dogs, cats, chickens and his dearest pet parrot: Fishbird, who he loved so much. Up until the day of his passing he was helping care for a feral cat colony on his property. He was always worried about the cats and making sure they were fed.
Luther was able to build a wonderful life with his loving wife and his two sons. With all of his accomplishments throughout his life, he was most proud of his two sons, and then his
grandkids. His grandchildren have been lucky enough through their childhood into adulthood to have shared many fond and special memories with “Poppop and Nana” that they will forever cherish.
Luther was a one of a kind man who always loved and supported his family. We were so lucky to have him, and will feel the effects of his loss forever. Though we are grieving, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his wife and kids.
Luther was preceded in death by his wife Catherine Huffman, and their two sons Rusty Huffman and Melvin Huffman. He is survived by his five grandchildren: Melvin Huffman, Stephen Huffman, Ryan Huffman, Kaitlyn Arnold (Steven), and Robin Huffman. Nine great-grandchildren: Hailey, Samirah, Arynn, Aubree, Jordan, Izabella, Miranda, Addison, and Asher. He is also survived by two wonderful and special family friends: Cindy Klinger and Ricky Plumer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 12 noon. Burial will immediately follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, Maryland.
