Leonard R. Delozier (Roland) was born, on December 4 1937, to the parents of Leonard and Dorothy in Rison, Maryland. Shortly after his birth, they relocated to Potomac Heights, living on Jonquil Street. At the age of 25 he moved with his parents into their new home on Poplar Lane across the street from his mother’s home.
Roland attended Archbishop Neale School and graduated in 1957. Since his graduation, he had attended his class reunion every year for 63 years. Roland worked various jobs including time with Scotty’s Service Center and the Army at Fort Myer. Greyhound (“The Hound, as he called it) Lines was his career until his retirement following 30 years of service. He enjoyed working with Greyhound and he was proud of being a Teamster.
Following his retirement, Roland enjoyed taking it easy and caring for his mother and father until their deaths. West Virginia and Virginia Beach were his favorite places to travel. He could tell you the exact travel time and mileage of each trip. When it came to food, the Lunch Box was his favorite restaurant and he loved their chipped beef. His love for his cats was undeniable/remarkable and his addiction to Military history was impressive. He enjoyed his “machines” (particularly his truck) and kept the maintenance in tip top shape.
He leaves behind his family and close friends Janice Talley, Robert Dudley, classmates and his neighbor/cousin who was always there for him, Regina Scott. Roland passed away, on December 20 2019, and spent his final days surrounded by his loved ones and people who deeply cared for him.
A memorial service for Roland will be held at Williams Funeral Home in Indian Head on January 4, 2020 with visitation starting at 11 AM until time of funeral service at 12 noon. His repast will be held at the Indian Head Moose Lodge following the service. In lieu of flowers the family asks you to make a donation to the Charles County Humane Society.
