Kenneth "Kenny" James Smith, 44, of La Plata, Maryland passed away peacefully the evening of September 22, 2025 surrounded by his family. Born on November 10, 1980 in Baltimore, Maryland he was a devoted husband to Tammie and loving father to Aaden, Logan and Jaxon.
Kenny lived his early life bright and fast, often pushing the limits of what was allowed; for instance, learning to ride a bicycle while extremely sick with a swollen spleen. After marrying Tammie he happily settled into family life and became a hardworking and dedicated member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 99. He spent 18 years managing building operations in Washington, DC and thoroughly enjoyed his work which allowed him to apply his wide range of skills.
Kenny adored his wife and children and spoke often of them. He could usually be found on his deck with Tammie watching his boys and dog playing soccer in the yard, riding the four wheeler, or racing their go-cart. He also enjoyed time in his garage tinkering with the many toys he had accumulated and refused to let go of.
Kenny attended Henry E. Lackey High School, graduated in 1998 and stayed in the area. While living in southern Maryland Kenny amassed a wide range of friends who would often beep their horns as they passed his house or randomly stop to say high or ask for some help if they saw his garage open. A fiercely loyal friend, Kenny would assist in any way possible when someone he cared about was in need.
Kenny was predeceased by his father W. Reed Smith III as well as his dog Corona with whom he shared a special bond. He is survived by his mother Kathy Smith, his wife, and sons. He is also survived by his sister Katie Froneberger (Josh), his brother W. Reed Smith IV (Candace), his nieces and nephews who will always remember him as their funny and caring Uncle Cheesy, and many more family and friends.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Kenny's name would be appreciated.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at the funeral home from 5-7 PM and on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 10 AM until time of services at 12 noon. Internment St. Charles Cemetery, Indian Head, Maryland.
