Joshua Paul Higgs Obituary

With heavy hearts, we share that Joshua Paul Higgs, 39, passed peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Medstar Washington Hospital Center.

Josh was born on August 21, 1985, in Clinton, Maryland. From the time he was young, he had a bright spirit and amazingly creative soul. He loved playing baseball, riding horses, and spending time with family and friends. He always found a way to bring fun and energy into any room.

He graduated from La Plata High school in 2004 and went on to work several different trades, his last being Facilities Management. His true calling was always in his art though. He was a gifted artist who had his own private tattoo studio where he created meaningful designs for people from all walks of life. His clients became friends and his work spoke to who he was, creative, thoughtful, and full of heart.  He loved what he did and the people he met through it.

Outside of work Josh enjoyed horror movies, especially the classics. He could talk for hours about his favorites and critique the remakes as if he was the director. It was something he genuinely enjoyed. It was a way he relaxed, laughed, and bonded with people close to him whether they also enjoyed the horror scene or he used it for scare pranks on all his beloved friends and their children.

Josh will be remembered for his huge heart, sharp sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty. He had a way of making people feel accepted and cared for. His presence truly lit up any room he entered. Let’s not forget his never-ending Hulk strength he loved to show off. His laugh, loyalty, love, and strength will stay with us forever.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents James and Barbara O’Neal from his mother’s side. Grandparents Robert Morton and Betty Higgs Morton on his father’s side.

Josh is survived by his mother Victoria Townsend, stepfather Poncho Townsend.  His father Randy Higgs Sr, stepmother Annette Higgs. His sister and brother-in-law Shannon and Jonathan Peck, their children nephews Ethan and Owen Peck. His brother and sister-in-law Randy Higgs Jr and Stephanie Higgs, their children nephew Austin Higgs and niece Riley Higgs. His sister Jennifer Higgs and her children, nieces Aubrey Higgs and Lainey Higgs. His Step brother L.R Higgs and step sister Amanda Higgs. All who will carry his love with them for many years to come.
