John Edward Steckroth “Jack” also known as “Pappy Jack” of Waldorf, MD passed away May 9, 2021, of natural causes.
Jack was born and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late John “Jack” and Lorma Steckroth. He served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves for 3 years before landing a job in Waldorf, MD at AT&T as a fiber optic technician. This is where he and his wife Carole raised their 4 children. He enjoyed being the life of the party, camping with his family and close friends, bowling on a league, and was a member of the Masonic Masons of Altoona, PA alongside his father. He also enjoyed communicating with others on the CB radio with the CB handle Junkman and his wife Snow White.
Jack is preceded in death by his loving wife of 33 years, Carole Ann, and son Michael, along with his parents Jack and Lorma Steckroth.
He is survived by his 3 children, Mark Steckroth and wife Lisa, Tammy DePalma and husband Ronnie, and John “Jack” Steckroth and wife Lisa; 2 sisters Nancy Sommers and husband Bill, and Cathy Anderson and husband Jim; 9 grandchildren: Rachel Miskell and husband Neal, Christopher Reifenauer and wife Dina, Ronnie DePalma, Lindsay St. Arnold and husband Tony, Michael Steckroth, Thomas Peacock, David, Hunter, and Kelsey Steckroth; 8 great-grandchildren: Alexa Black, Zachary and Gracie Miskell, Caiden Reifenauer, Lilah, Abigail, Summer, and Jacob St. Arnold, Braylen, and longtime companion Nancy Shaner, her son Mike Shaner, and her 2 grandchildren: Cody and Aaron.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home, Inc., 1204 – 17th Street, Altoona, PA 16601 at 11:00 AM, with a burial at Calvary Cemetery following the service.
