John (“Gene”) Eugene Thompson, 78, was born October 1, 1946 to John Maryland Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Butler Thompson.  He died at home on January 26, 2025.

Gene is the oldest of 14 children.  He owned Thompson Trucking Company and then he was a self-employed mechanic.

Gene married Catherine Lorraine Proctor (deceased).  They had two daughters: Christina Star Thompson (Anthony Barber) and Kimberlee Ann Thompson (Marc Smoot).  Gene has seven grandchildren: Antonio (Alicia) Quashia, James Stewart III (Carmen) Shauntesia (Javan Smith), Marc Kiya Marc, MarcKayla.

Second wife Ramona Louise (Evans) (Reed) (Sellman).  Ramona’s father Earl Evans, Jr. (deceased), Ramona’s mother Madie Louise Evans.  She has two daughters Lisa Marie Reed Williams (Shawn), Melanie N. Reed, one son Paul A. Reed, Jr. “(PJ)” and numerous grandchildren.

Gene has two sisters: Phyllis Sandra Thompson (Harley) and Lisa Marie Thompson (Duckett). 

He has one sister deceased: Denise Roxanne Thompson and a brother deceased: Charles Earl Thompson “(Hookie)”.

Gene loved his family and friends.  He enjoyed working on his cars and racing in his younger days.  He also enjoyed dancing.

He has a host of nieces and nephews of whom he loved very much.

Pall bearers:  Antonio Thompson, Anthony Barber, James Stewart III, Deacon Jim Hodges, Marc Smoot, Steve Rison; alternate Ty Barber.  Honorary Pall bearers Deacon Hughey Stevenson and Javen Smith.

The family will receive friends at Indian Head Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM.  Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Maryland.
