Jennie Louise Lough Obituary

Jennie Lough passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at the age of 92 surrounded by her loving family.

Jennie was born June 1, 1933 in Blainsburg, Pennsylvania to Ira and Jennie Singleton. Jennie’s older siblings Irene, Ira, and Theodore have since predeceased her. Growing up in the family home, she went to nearby California High School. As a very young girl attending Christian Missionary Alliance Church with her family, she met Willard Lough, who proved to be the love of her life. They were together until Willard’s passing in 2011.

Jennie and Willard married soon after her graduation and just before Willard, who had been drafted, was sent to the front lines of the Cold War in Germany. As a young bride, Jennie remained in Pennsylvania, dealing gracefully with the hardship of Willard’s overseas posting. When Willard’s service obligation ended, he quickly rejoined Jennie. After briefly working as a coal miner, Willard (and Jennie) took a leap of faith, relocating to Indian Head, Maryland and changing careers.

In addition to making a home for Willard, herself, and their four children, Jennie earned a teacher’s aide certificate and applied it at Walter J. Mitchell Elementary School for several years and Potomac Heights Christian Academy. As the family outgrew their first home, Jennie, Willard, and the children pitched in to build their own home in Ripley, Maryland. Here, there was ample space to hold family gatherings, something that sparked joy for her, especially on holidays.

Church and family were the center of Jennie’s life. She taught Sunday School and was deeply involved in church activities. As committed and devoted as she was, she had other interests as well. Jennie liked to garden, travel, camp, and to play the piano.

Remembering her roots, Jennie was sincerely concerned about those in need and those less fortunate. She proved this through charitable works and through teaching. In this way, she was truly a kind hearted woman.

She is survived by her two sons and two daughters, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Marbury Baptist Church, 4670 Bicknell Road, Marbury, Maryland. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until time of service at 11 PM and the repast immediately following. The burial will take place at a later date at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
