Jane Lewis Obituary

Jane Olive Danford Lewis, 86, was born September 6, 1936 in Elba, Alabama.  Her parents were Gary J. Danford and Gertrude Windham Danford.

Jane's father died in1947 at age 49.  Her mother passed away in1993 at age 88.  Jane was only 10 years old when her father died.  Life was very hard for Jane's mother, with four children to raise, Jane was the youngest, Gary (Pete) oldest (deceased), Marilyn second (deceased), and Ann Danford Waters was number 3, of Enterprise, Alabama.

Growing up they all knew the Lord. With His love and the love of their mother they all grew up to become wonderful adults.  Jane was a Christian and gave her life to our Lord Jesus as her savior at a very young age.  One of her favorite songs is "In The Garden".

Jane graduated from New Brockton Alabama high school in 1954.  She started work as a switchboard operator at the local phone company – before dial phones, (number please).  Jane then went to work for the US ARMY at Fort Rucker in Ozark, Alabama, at the office of Flight Records, keeping track of flight time of Army pilots.

In January 1956 she met Bob Lewis, a soldier from Bath, Maine, stationed at the Army Aviation Unit, right next to Flight Records!  On the 7th of May 1957 they were married. They have been married 66 years, (as we would say, through the years we have been married seven happy years, but not the same seven).

On October 21, 1959 along came the joy of our life, we had the best thing that ever happened to us, the birth of our son Gary.  Oh what a blessing from our Lord.  Gary grew up to become a fine young man.  The best son parents could ever wish for.

Jane, Bob and Gary moved from Bath, Maine to Nanjemoy, Maryland on August 15, 1966.  Jane went to work as secretary for Fleet Support Office at EOD Tech Center, Indian Head, Maryland.  Jane loved her job and always gave 100%.  She retired after 34 plus years.  While there she won many awards.  One of the awards she received was something she did while 1991 Gulf War Desert Storm was going on.  Whatever she did must have been very important and was secret, Jane would never talk about it.  We will never know what she did to help.

Jane was a wonderful wife and mother.  She loved to cook and was outstanding.  Jane loved her sports cars, always driving with the top down, hair blowing in the wind.  She loved to cross stitch, and painting and was very good at both.  She won a blue ribbon at the county fair for a picture she painted of a Rabbit.  She loved her Pekingese dog Princess Lu Fu, who lived for 17 years, and many cats, and working  in her daylily flower beds and digging in the dirt and keeping the yard in tip top shape.  She loves coffee mugs, and has hundreds of them from all four corners of the Earth.  Jane loved our Lord Jesus, she read the Holy Bible every day.

Everyone that met Jane loved her. She was so nice and will be missed by so many. The Lord is receiving a special lady.

Jane is preceded in death by her father, Gary J Danford, mother, Gertrude Windham Danford, brother, Gary J. Danford, sister, Marilyn Danford Soares.

She is survived by her husband Robert T Lewis, son Gary B. Lewis, sister Ann Danford Waters, nieces: Lisa Lewis, Maine, Michelle Lewis Howe, (Mike) Maine, Sharon Soares Raglan (Jeff) Alabama, Melinda Soucy Maine, nephews Michael Lewis, Maine, Larry Soares, Alabama, David Soares, (Tamiha) Wisconsin, RIchard Lewis Maine.
