James H. Williams II, 72, of Indian Head, MD passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023.
James (Jimmy) was born October 22, 1950 in Washington, DC to Doris Ida and James Hayward Williams. He grew up in Potomac Heights and graduated from Lackey High School, class of 1968. During these years he became known as “Willie” by his friends.
Soon after graduation he began working for Bell Atlantic, C&P Telephone Company later known as Verizon where he met the love of his life, Trudy Hamilton. Willie and Trudy were married on October 8, 1989. He retired from Verizon as an Engineer Assistant (EA).
James joined the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department (PHVFD) in 1966 while still in high school. He has been a devoted member for many years serving on both the fire and rescue squads. However, he was most well-known for his dedicated service as an EMT with the Rescue Squad. To say Willie loved the Fire Department would be a huge understatement. Besides his family, nothing was more important to him than PHVFD and his “fire family”. Willie was known as the guy to ask if you needed or wanted anything. He willingly gave all he had and then some.
James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. “Jimmy”/“Willie” will be greatly missed by many.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Trudy Williams; father, James Hayward Williams; mother, Doris Williams; sister, Barbara (Clair) Collins; and brother, Richard Chambers.
He is survived by sons, Michael (wife Kristine) Stottlemyer and Christopher (wife Jennifer) Stottlemyer; brother, Robert (wife Rene) Chambers; sister, Jackie Williams; sister-in-law, Shirley Chambers; grandchildren; Julia Stottlemyer, Kayla Stottlemyer (husband Jac), Dylan Stottlemyer and Kaegan Stottlemyer; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at PHVFD, 73 Glymont Road, Indian Head, MD on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM with Fireman’s Prayers at 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at PHVFD, 73 Glymont Road, Indian Head, MD on Saturday, June, 10 2023. The family will receive friends at 12:00 noon with a service to follow at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to stay after the service for a meal and a time of fellowship.
Burial arrangements will be shared once they are confirmed. Memorial contributions can be made to: PHVFD, 73 Glymont Road, Indian Head, MD 20640.
