Gloria "Jeannie" Jean Groenwoldt

Gloria Jean “Jeannie” Groenwoldt of La Plata, MD passed away peacefully at her home on January 3, 2023. Born on August 1, 1942 in Indian Head, MD, she was the daughter of the late Alton L. and Margaret B. Allen and Cleaveland Stevens.

She was predeceased in death by her beloved husband of 61 years Harry “Buddy” Groenwoldt, son Mark Andrew, sister Susan Lee Robbins and brother Alton Allen Jr.

She is survived by her children, Steven Groenwoldt of La Plata, MD, John Groenwoldt of Indian Head, MD (Lisa), Laurie Weiss (Andy) of Alamagordo, NM, Paul Groenwoldt (Alison) of La Plata, MD and Luke Groenwoldt of Dunkirk, MD. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly Martin, David Groenwoldt, Hanna Groenwoldt, Joey Groenwoldt, Jack Groenwoldt, Dylan Erickson and great granddaughter Khalia Erickson. She is also survived by her sisters Cheryl Maddox (Bobby) of LaPlata, MD, Sandra Rodeheaver of Colonial Beach, VA and brother Larry Allen of Gambrills, MD, sister in law Margaret Cunningham (Richard) of Rosslyn, VA and many nephews and nieces.

Gloria graduated from Lackey High School in 1960. After graduation she worked for a short time at the National Library of Medicine in Washington, DC and the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, MD.

Gloria became a stay at home mother once she started her family. She loved planning family gatherings. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting and rug hooking. She loved antiquing with her husband. Gloria was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Parish in Indian Head, MD. Gloria was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She was loved and admired by everyone that knew her.

Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday January 13, 2023 from 5-7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Parish, on Saturday January 14, 2023 at 10 AM. Internment will follow at St. Charles Cemetary, Indian Head, MD.
