Gloria Louise Panning of King George, Virginia, formerly of Indian Head, Maryland, passed away on August 29, 2022.
She retired as a production controller at NSWC, Indian Head where she worked for more than 30 years. Gloria also bartended part time at the VFW in Indian Head. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries. Gloria competed in Thursday night mixed bowling league at NSWC Indian Head. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing Keno, going on cruises, traveling with their best friends Dave and Tanok Kroc, shopping, dancing with her grandchildren, cooking, yardwork, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Gloria was born on October 21, 1948 to the late Thomas E. and Grace V. Simmons (Pickeral). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Ira B. Brown, sisters V. Ann Straub (John) and Katherine Gorman (Tom), brother Roger Simmons (Barbara).
Gloria is survived by her loving husband John M. Panning, daughter Tina L. Donaldson (James), grandchildren Brittney Rye, Bailey, Gracie and Katie Donaldson, great grandsons Jace Dunn and Easton Combs, daughter-in-law Rebekah Brown, granddaughter Meagan Brown, sister Wanda Simmons, brothers Ralph Simmons (Jean) and Larry Simmons (Janet).
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. On Friday, September 9, 2022 at The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Bryans Road, Maryland, there will be a viewing from 10-11 AM followed by the funeral service at 11 AM. Private burial to take place at a later date at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
