George Bicknell Dudley Obituary

George was called to his heavenly home on June 12, 2024.

He was born January 19, 1936, to Roby H. Dudley and Alice Novella (Henderson) Dudley, the youngest of 11 children.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved grandson Charles “Charlie” Beymer, mother- and father-in-law Edward (Slim) and Ethel Milstead, ten brothers and sisters: Novella Rees, Robey Dudley, Efton Dudley, Wilton Dudley, Charles Dudley, Abner Dudley, Ruther Morris, Ernest Dudley, Betty Cockerham, and Glenwood Dudley.

George is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Barbara (Milstead) Dudley, son Mark Dudley (Denise), daughter Lisa Beymer (Mark), grandchildren Kevin Dudley (Shannon), Casie Dudley, Matthew Beymer, honorary grandson James Articola, and great-grandchildren, Rylen and Logan Dudley.

George retired as an electrician and assistant foreman in the department of Architect of the Capitol on Capitol Hill after more than 32 years. He was a faithful member of the Masonic Perseverance Lodge 208 for more than 49 years, serving as Tyler and Tyler Emeritus. He was an active member at Marbury Baptist Church serving as Deacon and Trustee for many years. He served as a member of the Army National Guard and Army Reserve. He was involved for a number of years with Boy Scouts of America as Scoutmaster for Troop 253.

His family was the center of his world as he was theirs. His home and yard were his palace and he enjoyed working in it. He was a jack-of-all trades and could fix just about anything. If someone needed help, he was first in line. You only had to meet him once, and he was your friend. His helpfulness, laughter, and hugs will be missed tremendously.

Celebration of Life will be at Marbury Baptist Church on Saturday, June 22. Visitation will be at 10:00-11:00 a.m.  Service will begin at 11:00.  Meal and fellowship will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson’s Foundation, Marbury Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Welcome, or 10th District Fire and Rescue.
