With deep sorrow the family announces the unexpected passing of Gary Lee Bowie on September 5, 2025, at the age of 62 at his residence in Nanjemoy, Maryland.
Gary Lee Bowie was born on April 14, 1963 in La Plata, Maryland to Margaret Bowie and William Bowie Jr. Over the years Gary was a master carpenter, waterman, and farmer of animals. In his younger years he explored diesel mechanics. Gary was a jack of all trades. If something needed to be figured out or needed to be fixed he did it. If he didn’t know how he knew who would.
Gary was a man with a huge heart that was larger than life. He would help anyone who needed it. Gary loved his chihuahua’s. Fizzle, his number one sidekick, would be seen with him most places he went. She made sure you didn’t stick your hand in his windows. Gary loved fishing and being on the water. Gary was an advocate of the Amish community. Gary was a stubborn man which could be a blessing and downfall at times. His generosity touched more lives than we could begin to name. He was a jokester, a good friend, loyal to a fault, strong, and just an amazing presence wherever he was.
He is survived by his children, Catherine Murphy (Martin), Katrina Dismuke (Robbie), Christina Miller (Terry); his grandchildren, Hailey Steele, Paige Murphy, Ryleigh Murphy, Gabriel Miller, Emma Murphy, Joshua Miller, Nicholas Miller, Jimmie Dismuke; his mother, Margaret Dyson; siblings, Tina Millar, Terri Doak (Robert), William Bowie III, Emory Bowie, Roger Thomas Dyson; 7 nieces and nephews, his sister in law, Sandy Schubach, his best friend Danny Milstead (Jerry). He was preceded in death by his father William Lewis Bowie Jr.; stepfather Roger Dyson; long time partner Missy Strobel; paternal and maternal grandparents.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on September 20, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Nanjemoy Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gary’s memory to his daughter for preservation of the family farm.
