Emmett Posey, age 66 of Indian Head, Maryland, passed into the Lord’s loving arms on March 13, 2022. He was born on December 9, 1955 in Washington, D.C. to the late Carroll and Dorothy Posey (nee McLane).
He worked as a Chevrolet master mechanic for several dealerships over his lifetime, including Barnes, Seidel, Pohanka, and, for the majority of his career, Jack Winegardner Chevrolet. He also spent many weekends working alongside his best friend Mike Jones at Charles County Auto Body.
Emmett’s passion for cars extended far beyond his occupation—he was an avid drag racer for several decades, regularly spending his Saturdays at Maryland International Raceway in his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS and later in a dragster.
Outside of the track, Emmett’s second home was the love and community he found at Indian Head Baptist Church. He was on the church finance committee and the building & grounds committee, an usher, a faithful member of their Men’s Bible Study, and worked their Annual Car Show on the Village Green.
He leaves behind his daughter Heather Posey, sister Bertie (Posey) Spalding, nieces Tiffany (Posey) Weeks and Erica (Posey) King, nephew Scott Posey, 5 great-nephews, 2 great-nieces, best friends Mike Jones, Buddy Matthews, Steve Rison, Stanley Saunders, and countless others he considered family.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents Carroll and Dorothy (McLane) Posey and brother Willie Posey.
In lieu of flowers, his legacy is better honored through contributions to Indian Head Baptist Church’s Annual Car Show Outreach, which he helped establish.
