Colleen Ann O’Brien, 67, of Indian Head, Maryland passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023, in Quantico, Maryland, with her sister and brother at her side.
She was born on August 15, 1955, in Charleston, South Carolina to Richard (OBie) and Agnes (Peggy) O’Brien. She moved to Indian Head, Maryland as a young child and spent most of her life there. Colleen attended St. Mary Star of the Sea School through the eighth grade and graduated from Lackey High School in 1973.
She enjoyed working as a Secretary at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division for 35 years, retiring this past November.
Colleen loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her large extended family. She had numerous friends with whom she enjoyed camping, hanging out and girls weekend trips. Colleen was a natural with children and animals. She was a caring, generous person and well-loved by family, friends and co-workers. She was independent, strong willed and determined.
Colleen endured a difficult, more than four-year long, battle with cancer. She was strong, courageous and fought hard until the end, always maintaining her sense of humor and realistic view of her situation. Her strong faith in God never wavered. She was an inspiration to many who knew her. Colleen will be missed by all who loved her.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents Richard O’Brien and Agnes O’Brien. She is survived by her sister, Noreen O’Brien Sahakian and her husband Edmund of Quantico, Maryland; Patrick O’Brien and his wife Cherie of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina and nieces Letti O’Brien of Chatham, Illinois and Hannah O’Brien of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 10 AM until time of memorial service at 12 PM.

The family wishes to thank her wonderful, caring doctor, oncology nurses and staff at Maryland Oncology Hematology, Brandywine, Maryland.
