Clyde Shipp Sipe died peacefully in LaPlata, MD on 16 September 2024 at the age of 93. Clyde is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ida Mae Sipe and his grandson whom he raised, Tristin Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde K. Sipe and Irene Frye; his children Michael Sipe and Clyde K. Sipe; and one grandson.
He is survived by his children Clyde S. Sipe (Debbie) of North Carolina; Margorie “Margie” Marshall (J. Keith) of Amissville, VA; Constance “Connie” Hawthorne of Warrenton, VA; Irene
Stull (Dwayne) of Culpeper, VA; Phillip Sipe of Fort Lauderdale, FL ; his stepchildren Melanie Webb (Robert) of Waldorf, MD and Adam Smith of Grafton, WV. Additionally he is survived by 13 Grandchildren, 18 Greatgrandchildren and 2 Great-Great grandchildren.
Clyde was born in Swift Run, Virginia on 18 January 1931. As a young man, he joined the Navy to see the world - and he did. He was radioman in the Navy serving on the presidential yacht USS Sequoia, the submarine Becuna, SS-319, and many other ships and destroyers. After the Navy, he became an Electrician, which he worked at for 40 plus years, mentoring many young electricians along the way.
He loved U.S. History and spent many days exploring civil war and WW2 sites with his wife, Ida. He loved to listen to classic country music and spent many hours enjoying it at a very high volume. He was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Potomac Heights Baptist Church on Wednesday, 13 November 2024 at 9:45 AM. Burial at Maryland Veteran Cemetery in Cheltenham, Maryland at 11:15 AM.
