Cary Cleveland Drinkard of Indian Head, Maryland passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025 at University of Maryland Regional Medical Center. He was 88 years old.
Cary was born on July 7, 1936 in Indian Head, Maryland to the late Therman Cleveland Drinkard and Mary Frances (Cary) Drinkard. He was the oldest of 5 siblings: Neal, Jane, Sue, Gail, and Robbie. Cary and Lorena Farley were married October 20, 1967 until her passing in November 2013.
As a child, Cary enjoyed playing with BB Guns with his brother Neal and cousins Rudy and Miles Cary, building igloos in the snow, playing in the woods and the Mattawoman Creek, playing cowboys and Indians and in his adult life he enjoyed bowling on the Indian Head Tuesday Night Mixed Bowling League.
Cary graduated from Lackey High School in 1954 and shortly thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in February 1965.
After his term in the military service, he worked at the Naval Propellant Plant. Cary then went on to become an entrepreneur owning and operating several small businesses in his community such as a drug store, a pet store, and ultimately, the iconic C & D Carry-Out. These businesses, especially the carry-out, provided employment AND ENTERTAINMENT for many in the community.
After retirement and health decline, Cary was lovingly cared for by Catherine Day for 16 years. Also, his nieces Stephney and Pennie Drinkard and Sheila Zattu were a constant help and presence in his life.
Cary is preceded in death by: Siblings Robert Drinkard, Neal Drinkard and Jane Bussey. He is survived by sisters Sue Mellott and Gail Taherian and Brother-In- Law Qasim Taherian as well as Aunt Rosie Goode, countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation and service will be held at the Williams Funeral Home in Indian Head on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 10:30 AM until time of funeral service at 12:00 PM. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122, as they were so kind and caring to Cary in the last hours of his life.
