C. Herbert Gray

C. Herbert Gray, 93, of Marbury, MD passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2023 at University of Maryland Hospital.

Herbert was born in Marbury, MD to Marybelle & Russell Gray, Sr. on March 15, 1929. He lived in Marbury his entire life. In 1949, he married the love of his life, Loretta Kehoe and they had 8 children.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Russell Jr, Oliver, Paul, Samuel “Sonny”, Kathryn Ann, Mary V., Dorothy Faye and Harryette; and two children, Herbert “Herby” Jr and Russell.

He is survived by two sisters, Sylvia and Sharon; his wife of 73 years, Loretta; children, Anne (Bill), Donna, Victor (Cathy), Gloria (William), Katrina, and Dwayne (Tina); 10 grandchildren Maryanne, Herby, Ryan, William, Blair, Kristen, Jessica, Shane, Sara and Chelsea; 13 great-grandchildren, Brett, Troy, Taylor, Ashley, Aiden, Liam, Gracie, Amber, Cian, Emma, Sadie, Abby, and Claire; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Hunter.

Herbert worked in the meat cutting business with his family and had his own meat & poultry business in Washington, DC. He was a great carpenter who remodeled and built many homes locally on his own and as part of the Sunshine Boys.

Herbert was a workaholic. It made him happy to be busy. His pride & joy in retirement was taking immense care of Grays Beach, listening to oldies & bluegrass music, and spending his time with his wife and family.

Internment was private.
