Betty Lee Marks, 95, of Ripley, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025.
Betty was born on March 5, 1930 in Reidsville, North Carolina where she spent her childhood. She then moved to Washington, D.C. where she attended cosmetology school. She married Jackson D. Marks in 1955 in Panama City, Florida and moved to other naval bases, including the Naval Support Facility Indian Head, in Indian Head, Maryland.
Betty was the owner of the Sportsmen’s Den in Indian Head, Maryland and the Bar J Ranch in Ripley, Maryland. She and Jack retired from Southern Maryland Pest Control in 1993. Betty was an active member of the St. Charles Towne Center Mall Walkers and the La Plata Senior Center, where she found joy in painting. Over the years, Betty enjoyed crocheting afghans, reading all genres of books, and watching Jeopardy every night. She attended Red Hat Ladies meetings, the Pisgah United Methodist Church, and she went to Florida every winter until 2020. In recent years, Betty faced a series of health issues that confined her to home, where she leaned on her loved ones for care and comfort.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson D. Marks.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Marks and his wife, Carole “Cindy” Marks of La Plata, Maryland; grandchildren, Katie Cooper and her husband, Travis Cooper, of Port Tobacco, Maryland and Gary Marks of Indian Head, Maryland; and great grandchildren, Grant Cooper and Dean Cooper. She also leaves stepdaughter, Patty Harter, and family of Greenville, Ohio.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. The family will lay her to rest at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
