I had the pleasure of getting to know Bill while he lived at Charlotte Hall. He was one of the first veterans I got to talk with while I was maintaining the Library there. Bill was also my Senior Prom date in 2016 and again in 2017. I just recently discovered that he was not longer with us here and wanted to express my sympathies to his family and friends. He is missed. RIP Bill!

Although my times with Uncle Bill were limited, I remember him as a wonderful man. As a boy, he helped me dig worms behind my grandaddy's garage and took me fishing at Lake Chicamauga in Chattanooga,Tennessee. He caught a nice catfish and I a largemouth bass! Another time he spent an entire day with me at the Chicamauga battlefield of the Civil War, explaining the details of the battle and movements of the troops. I can still feel the summer breeze and hear the call of the bobwhite quail in the woods as I reminence. Uncle Bill also got me started in coin collecting, a great passion of his for many years. During my three years in Philadelphia, my family and I spent holidays with Bill and Shirley. They were our family away from home. We had wonderful times. Later, Uncle Bill and Shirley came to visit us several times in South Dakota before he suffered his stroke. Thank you Uncle Bill. May you Rest In Peace. With all our love, Mark and Jan.
