Walter "Bud" Poynor, Sr.

Walter “Bud” Poynor, Sr., age 90, passed away at his log cabin home in Indian Head, MD, on December 30, 2017.  The son of the late William Edward Poynor and Annie George (Fuller) Poynor, Bud was born in Milford, VA on July 29, 1927.  Bud farmed alongside his family until being drafted by the Army during the Korean War.  Bud served his country honorably as an MP in Germany from 1951 through 1953.  After returning home, he married Gail Lee Hancock on June 13, 1953.  Bud worked for the Federal Government as a carpenter at the Naval Base in Indian Head and Andrews Air Force Base for four years.  After working for the Federal Government, Bud worked for several builders and then began his own company, Walter Poynor Builder, in 1965.  Bud built many homes in southern Maryland and was responsible for the neighborhood of Rison Acres in Indian Head.  Bud’s most fulfilling building project was his log cabin and his 3 acre man-made lake.  Bud retired in 1995.  Bud was an avid hunter; his favorite was a hunting trip with many family members and friends to South Africa in 2006.  He and Gail traveled much of the United States and enjoyed many cruises.  They loved their multiple trips to Alaska most.  Bud loved God, his church, his family, his friends, and his Baltimore Orioles.  In addition to being survived by his wife of 64 years, Bud is survived by four children:  Walter “Buddy” Poynor (Debbie), Cynthia Hancock (Mark), Susan Haines (Billy), and Ginger Kisamore (Mike); eight grandchildren:  Matthew Poynor (Sara), Wesley Poynor (Lia), Seth Hancock, Selah Hancock, Julie Harvey (Matt), Christopher Myers (Cassandra), Rebecca Kisamore, and Heidi Kisamore; and five great grandchildren:  Hunter Poynor, Ava Poynor, Logan Poynor, Branek Harvey, and Zoë Harvey.  Viewings and funeral will be held at Potomac Heights Baptist Church, 37 Glymont Road, Indian Head, MD.  Viewings will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2018 and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018.  The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018.  Donations may be made to Potomac Heights Baptist Church or Hospice of Charles County.
