Ruth was born in Grayton, MD at Efton Hills on May 24, 1927. She was the middle child of eleven children. Ruth graduated from Nanjemoy High School as Salutatorian with the Athletic Award for the Class of 1944. She went to work at the Naval Ordnance Station where she met Marine Chester Hugh Morris from Georgia. They married in 1948 and as a Marine wife, Ruth traveled far away from her large family, but always kept a close bond with her parents and siblings. She became a mother to daughters in 1951 and 1955 who thought she could do anything. She sewed, baked, drew, made up games, was Brownie and Girl scout leader, school volunteer, Sunday school teacher, VBS teacher, literacy mentor, GA Leader, and loving Mom. Her husband retired from the Marine Corps in 1967 and she returned to work at NOS where she worked until retiring in 1987. During that period, she was caretaker of her parents for 9 years. After retiring she was ordained a Deacon in the church, worked in the history room, served as Church Clerk, participated in numerous church activities, member of Potomac Heights Senior Club, learned to swim and traveled. Her grandchildren will tell you she was a great cook, had a heart of gold, and a gentle, kind spirit.
