Michael "Shay" Gelzer

Michael Shay Gelzer, 53, of La Plata, MD, passed away peacefully at his home in LaPlata, Maryland on January 16, 2018.  Born June 28, 1964 to John & Bonnie Gelzer, he is survived by his wife Lisa M. Gelzer, son, Michael S. Gelzer Jr., daughter, Ashley N. Gelzer, step-children, Joseph and Rebecca Longley; brother, Steve Gelzer, sister, Michelle Gelzer, and father, John Gelzer.  He was a member of the IEUC (International Union of Elevator Constructors) Local 10, and worked in the elevator industry for many years.

Shay, as he was known to family & friends, was a handyman and “Jack of all Trades” who enjoyed working with his hands.  He was a talented mechanic, who worked on cars in his spare time, and enjoyed watching the Nascar races.  He loved and was loved by family & friends, and will be missed and remembered by many.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 29, 2018, from 5 - 7 PM at the funeral home with a Memorial Service at 6 PM.
