Lola Roberta “Bobbi” Elrod, 90 of Bryans Road, MD passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease on December 18, 2018 at Pine Tree Nursing Home.
Born November 21, 1928 in Iowa to Harry and Lola Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lola, brother Ralph, sisters Mary and Lucille, and her beloved husband of 61 years, Richard G. Elrod. She is survived by her four children, Patricia of Ohio and Texas, Steve (Nancy) of Nanjemoy, Richard (Gale) of LaPlata, and Rob (Meredith) of Brandywine, sisters Betty Legagneux and Ruth Russ, both of Indian Head, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Bobbi’s family moved from Iowa to Maryland in the early 1940’s for her father to work at Indian Head Naval Base. She graduated from Lackey High School in 1945. She loved playing basketball and softball on the high school teams and was always quite athletic.
She met and married Dick Elrod when she was 19 years old. He was a sailor in the US Navy and was aboard a ship during WWII. They traveled a lot together during his years in the Navy spending time in France, Norfolk, VA, South Carolina, Alabama, and various other places around the US. After Dick’s retirement, they settled back in Maryland near Bobbi’s family and spent many a great holidays together.
Bobbi was a homemaker for many years, raised four beautiful children, and then went on to work for the federal government for over twenty years. She spent time with the FBI, Indian Head Naval Base, and NRL, where she eventually retired. She and her husband enjoyed traveling together, dancing, playing Bridge with friends, and visiting their four children and ten grandchildren. Bobbi loved puzzles, playing games, and staying active. She was an active member of Indian Head Baptist Church, always had a smile on her face, and had a quick wit about her.
Viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at the funeral home. Celebration service of her life will begin at 12:30 PM. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
