James Roy Lyon Jr, 76, of Indian Head, Maryland, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, MD.
Roy was born April 21, 1942 in Washington D.C. to the late Roy and Mary Lyon of Indian Head. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy, his three daughters, Terrie Zuleger of Panama City Beach, FL, Paula Lyon-Accardi and Lisa Lyon of Virginia, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his sister Mary Ola Gardiner of McLean, VA, her three children Will, Tom and Ellie, and numerous friends.
He spent much of his life in the service of being a volunteer firefighter of Indian Head, Fire Marshall for the county from 1966 -1973, Chief to Potomac Heights VFD in 1973 – 1974 and career firefighter for Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head for a total of 27 years. He was a member at St. James Episcopal Church in Indian Head. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time on the golf course and reconnecting with his friends he met growing up and through firefighting.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, October 29, 2018 at Potomac Heights Fire Department at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to any of the Charles County Volunteer Fire Departments.
