George Washington Coleman, 87, of Indian Head, Maryland, died December 2, 2017. He was born in Indian Head, Maryland, on July 8, 1930. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Janice Drinkard Coleman, his parents Emily Marie and Harry D. Coleman, along with his siblings; twin-brother Charles Coleman, brother Henry “Dewey” Coleman, and sister Doris Coleman Klaas. He is survived by his son, George J. and wife, Angela, and four grandchildren (Caleb, Abigail, Luke, and Emma).
George was a graduate of Lackey High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business & Public Administration from University of Maryland.
George served as a Technical Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He then worked as the Director of Procurement Policy for NASA at Cape Canaveral and retired from NASA Headquarters. He then served as Town Manager for Potomac Heights for several years and finally retired as Manager of the Indian Head NSWC Golf Course.
George was a successful pitcher in baseball, leading teams through high-school and the Air Force. He was golf club champion several years, and won several championships in bowling.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 10 AM, Funeral Service at 12 PM, immediately followed by internment St. Charles Cemetery.
