On Saturday, April 13, 2019, Francis Lawrence Cary, Sr., 70, of Salisbury, MD passed away at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
Larry was predeceased by his parents, Francis R. Cary and Hazel Jenkins Cary; his paternal grandparents, Raymond B. Cary and Margaret Joeckel Cary; his maternal grandparents, Thomas R. Jenkins and Catherine Coombs Jenkins; and his aunt, Anne Clements Cary.
Larry is survived by his wife of 14 years, Carolyn Margaret, his brother, Thomas R. Cary; his children Angela Grabis (Eric), Chip Cary, and Christopher Cary (Alyssa); his grandchildren: Autumn Cary and Sylas Cary; and his stepchildren: Christina Smith-Vogel (Robert ), Lewis Smith, Jr. (Kim), and Cynthia Murray (Patrick).
A native of Indian Head, MD, Larry was born in Washington, DC, on July 23, 1948. He graduated from Lackey High School in 1967 and took courses at Charles County Community College. Thereafter, he worked at several nursing homes, including facilities in La Plata and Clinton, MD.
Larry enjoyed fishing and crabbing, following the exploits of his favorite sports teams (Dolphins, Orioles and Nationals), and, above all, listening to music – especially the Beatles. Over the years he amassed a sizable collection of Beatles books, records and CDs that he treasured greatly.
He also loved writing poetry. In addition to creating personal poems for his friends and co-workers, he was often asked to write poetry commemorating local civic events. He once published a small collection of his poems that was sold in local bookstores.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Friends will be received at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Indian Head, MD on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 10 AM until time of funeral mass at 11 AM. Interment St. Charles Cemetery, Indian Head, MD.
