Edna Price Obituary

The journey of Edna Lavern (Dent) Price began on June 16, 1940.  She was born to the late Colbert and Louise Dent in Ironsides, MD.  She earned her wings and went on to be with the Lord on August 24, 2019 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC.

Edna received her education from Mt. Hope Elementary and Pomonkey Middle and High Schools in Charles County, MD.  As a young woman, she met and united in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life – Cline Elmer Price.  She remained a loving and devoted wife until the time of his death.  Together, they raised their four children:  David (Marie) Price, Cynthia (Joseph) Gray, Vondell (Loraine) Price and Portia Price.

Edna loved the Lord and received her biblical foundation at Mount Hope Baptist Church where she worshiped as a child and was baptized in 1982.  She later joined and was again baptized at Free Gospel Church of Bryans Road under the direction of Bishop James Briscoe.  She remained a faithful member until her death.

Edna will always be remembered as a very classy lady with a unique sense of style.  Her choice in clothes and jewelry always stood out.  Her God-given talent for styling hair was a blessing to many, including family and friends.  Edna was a very soft-spoken woman with a beautiful personality.  No matter the day or time, she’d always greet you with a warm smile!

Anyone who knew her knew of her love for her family and nothing brought her greater joy than family gatherings.  Although she loved to go out to restaurants, her preference was to visit the homes of her children and grandchildren to fellowship and have a good meal.  Edna also loved to travel and enjoyed going to various destinations with her family.  Whenever anyone asked, she was ready to go!  If it was a gathering – you could count on her having her famous dessert (pineapple, cottage cheese and lime jello) or her delicious deviled eggs!

In addition to her husband and parents, Edna was preceded in death by her brother – Colbert Dent; three sisters – Isrom (Ernest) Dent, Lorraine (Clyde) Thomas and Lorraine (Francis) Dyer; four brothers-in-law – Moses DuPree, Lewis Matthews, Floyd Price and Paul “Roger” Price; three sisters-in-law – Thelma (James) Washington, Laverne Price and Virginia “Jenny” Price; and one beloved grandson – Adeesah Jenifer.

She leaves to cherish her memory: four loving children - two girls and two boys; brothers – Bernard (Doris) Dent and Thomas Dent; three sisters – Sylvia DuPree, Barbara Matthews and Ellen (Curtis) Jackson; brother-in-law – Hampton Price; sisters-in-law – Florence Dent and Felicia Price; a blessing of fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends;  her very special Caregivers, and her loyal companion of seventeen years – her cat Mandy!  As her journey continues in Heaven, her legacy will continue to live on in those who knew and loved her.  May her soul rest in Perfect Peace!

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2019 from 9 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM at Free Gospel Church-Bryans Road, MD.  Interment Mount Hope Baptist Church cemetery Nanjemoy, MD.
