Arthur "Sonny" Lund, Jr.

Arthur “Sonny” Lund, Jr., 80, passed away surrounded by family and friends on October 11, 2017.  He was born January 18, 1937, to the late Arthur and Frances Lund.

Sonny graduated from Lackey High School (‘55) and attended the University of Maryland.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1958 through 1964.  While stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, for basic training, he met and married his wife of 59 years, Virginia Reid.  He was the current President and Owner/Operator of Bryans Road Building Supply, an 80 year-old family business, where he worked until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharon Pailthorp (Jim).  He is survived by his wife and daughters Susan Von Hoven (Mike) of Louisville, KY, and Sarah Miller (Danny) of Indian Head, MD, and granddaughters Jill Von Hoven and Jourdyn Miller as well as other relatives.

Sonny loved life, his family, friends, and church.  He was a member of the Indian Head United Methodist Church (UMC) for more than 50 years, where he served in many leadership positions.  He was also a Mason and member of Perseverance Lodge 208.  Professionally, he belonged to the Charles County Chamber of Commerce, the Pennsylvania Lumberman’s Association, the National Federation of Independent Business Owners, and the True Value and Ace hardware franchises.  A lifelong resident of Maryland, when not working, he could be found on the river, eating crabs, on a boat, or playing golf with his buddies.

A public viewing will be held at Indian Head UMC, Friday, October 20, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  The funeral service will take place at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 21, followed by burial at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.
