Ruth Comstock, age 94, of Indian Head, MD, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2017 at SagePoint Senior Living Nursing Home, La Plata, MD. Born June 8, 1923 in Glymont, MD, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Everett Moody and Grace Cecelia Knott Moody. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Emory “Yank” Comstock, and sons Arthur A. Comstock, John “Boo” Comstock, and Grandson Andrew J. Boyd. She celebrated 70 years of marriage in December, 2012.
She was a graduate of Lackey High School, coming of age during WWII. She married in 1942 and helped the war effort by working in the War Bond office at the Navy base in Indian Head. Her employment continued in between having six children as the Treasurer for the Town of Indian Head, and opening up her own fabric store, The Spinning Wheel, also in Indian Head.
She enjoyed 15 years of retirement living in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Her hobbies were playing cards, cooking, sewing, and gardening. She is survived by her children Karen Sprague of Broomes Island, MD; Chris Comstock (Wendy) of Indian Head, MD; Lynne Wheeler (John) of Chicamuxen, MD; Ruthie Knights (David) of Louisville, KY; sister Elaine Simpson (Johnnie) of La Plata, MD; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Viewing at 10 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 21, 2017 at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, MD. Interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Glymont, MD.
