Welcome to the memorial page for

John Philip Mills, Jr.

July 16, 1951 ~ June 11, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old

John Philip Mills, Jr. resided in Brandywine, MD for 65 years.  He was born in Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. on July 16,1951.  His parents were John Philip Mills, Sr. of Grayton, MD and Edeltraud Maria GÖpferich Mills of Esslingen, Germany.  Both parents preceded him in death.

John died on June 11, 2017 at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.

John leaves behind two sisters Maryemma Degges-Bohl of Forestville, MD and Miriam Myers of Brandywine, Md.  He also leaves behind a nephew John Degges (Dee) and daughter Taylor, and a niece Melissa Degges-Velasquez (Tim) and son Aaron.John graduated from Gwynn Park High School (Class of 1969).  He attended the College of Southern Maryland.  He worked for lawn doctor and then the US Postal Service, where he stayed for 32 years first as a carrier then as a clerk.

John belonged to numerous groups and organizations, I probably couldn’t name them all.  I do know he was past governor of the Moose Lodge in Clinton and was a lifetime member.  He served as a counselor and member of the Junior Order of Young American Mechanics.  For Community Support Systems he served on the board of directors and was a working member.

John always volunteered to help.  I would describe him as a very giving person, he was most proud when he could give back to life.  Enjoyment in life was in helping others.  He enjoyed making jewelry and bringing flowers back to life.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 10 AM at Cheltenham United Methodist Church.  The repast will follow the service in the church hall.
