Loving Mom and Home Maker

On June 19, 2017, Joan M. Goggi passed away at her home in White Plains, Maryland.  She was 94.

Joan was born in St. John’s, Antigua, the British West Indies, and grew up on the Island of St. Vincent, where she met her beloved husband, Louis, while he was on R&R there during WWII.  As a military wife, Joan lived in several states (New Hampshire, New York, Virginia, and Maryland) and abroad in Japan.  She has resided in her home in White Plains since 1978.

Joan considered all the world a stage on which to perform.  She was a prolific poetry writer, often writing and delivering poetry for special occasions at the Charles County Senior Center and other places.  She also loved to sing, dance, act, and play the harmonica, performing with the Charles County Senior Center players on many occasions.

When her children were growing up, she served as a school room mother, Cub Scout den mother, and, for several years, as a coach of a very successful, winning boys’ youth softball team in Camp Springs.  She loved sports and was a rabid fan of Maryland Basketball, the Washington Redskins and the Washington Senators.

She was a member of several church choirs through the years, bringing her beautiful voice to bear.  Even as her health was failing her, her voice at Mass remained strong and beautiful and wonderful to listen to.  She was truly at her best in God’s House.

She will be remembered as a much loved mom and friend.

Joan was preceded in death by Louis, her husband of almost 61 years, and by two brothers, Arthur Bell of Toronto, Canada, and Emile Bell of Albany.  Survivors include two sons, Wray Goggi of White Plains, and Michael Goggi (Sherrie) of Hughesville, and a daughter, Sandra Reese (Peter) of McLean; two grand-daughters, Stephanie Reininger (Joshua) of Fairfax and Gail Reese of Arlington; two great grand-children, Autumn and Liam; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pomfret, Maryland, on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 10 AM until time of Mass at 11 AM.  Interment Church cemetery.

The Long Road

By

Joan Goggi

The road was long and winding,

I thought it would never end,

But still, I kept on going,

Waiting to see around the bend.

And, as I traveled on, it seemed

That thus winds the road of Life,

While always we are seeking

To find a haven without strife.

Then, sometimes, the road may be rough,

And we falter and weary grow.

However, we are determined

That our purpose will clearly show.

For when the journey is over,

There should deserved reward be,

And all happiness may await us,

But, which now, we cannot see.
