Welcome to the memorial page for

Dorothy Margaret Scott

July 28, 1923 ~ December 25, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Dorothy Margaret Scott passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017.  She was born July 28, 1923 in Doncaster, MD.  She was one of nine children born to William and Margaret (Maggie) Gilroy.  Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, John Thurston Scott, her parents and all of her siblings and their spouses.  Margaret was the last survivor of her eight siblings and their spouses.

Margaret is survived by her son Bruce J. Scott, of Woodbridge, VA; daughters, Valerie (Val) Scott Buckley, of South Riding, VA and Joyce (Joy) Scott Combs, of Bluff City, TN.  Six grandchildren:  Scot, Shaun, Chris, Mike, Ashley and Alaina.  Seven Great-Grandchildren:  Jordan, Selaina, Karly, Parker, Sydney, Aidan and Juliet and Three Great-Great Grandchildren:  Ryder, Wylon, and Margaret (5 generations).

Margaret enjoyed crocheting, quilting, needlepoint, and all crafts including Christmas decorations.  In the mid-1960's she went to work in the cafeteria of the J.C. Parks Elementary School in Bryans Road, MD.  She worked there for ten years.  In 1977, when she was only 54, she was asked to lead the local senior citizen club known as "The 6-0 Club".  She enjoyed organizing outings to such places as dinner theatres and historic sites, also the planning of birthday celebrations, holiday and craft shows.  After thirty years, Margaret resigned to relax and enjoy continued travels with her husband, John, and the" Friendly Maryland Travelers" of the "Good Sam's Club".  She was active in the Shiloh United Methodist Church volunteering her time to work in the "Old Shiloh Church" Thrift Shop.  There were some chuckles when Margaret's very own jacket was purchased by a customer while she was busy working at the Thrift Shop!  Margaret also served on several Church committees and worked at Bazaars.  She was especially proud the year "her" dessert table brought in more money for the Church than any previous year.  Margaret bent over backwards for others and will be fondly remembered for her caring and giving nature.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at 1 PM until time of funeral services at 3 PM.  Burial at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD on Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11 AM.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, Bryans Road, MD.
