Dorothy Adaline Krikstan, age 92
Peacefully on March 5, 2018, surrounded by her husband of 71 years, Mathew Krikstan, and her four sons, Mathew Kirk (Virginia), Mark (Michael), Luke (Cindy), and John (Susie). She is preceded in death by her parents, Julian Clarence and Agnes Owen, her brother, Julian Owen, and sisters, Henrietta Bell and Margaret Riley. She was much loved and treasured by her eight grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great great grandson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Her kind words, gentle touch, and humble spirit were hallmarks of her long career as a kindergarten, Head Start, and special education teacher with Star of the Sea Catholic School and with several Charles County public schools. One of her students from nearly 50 years ago writes, “It was more than just the academic lessons of ABCs and 1-2-3 that made the difference in my life. While she instilled in me the eagerness to learn, she also instilled in me the importance of acceptance. Learning to accept people regardless of their differences was the greatest legacy of her career.” The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Indian Head, Maryland, on March 17, 2018, at 11:00 am. The family will receive visitors during the hour prior to mass in the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Charles County, Md. or to your favorite charity.
