Charlotte E. Gladwell
August 6, 19XX – April 4, 2018 (Age Unk)
Charlotte Elaine (Hodges) Gladwell of Bryans Road, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly April 4, 2018.
She was born August 6, 19XX. Daughter of the late Thomas Oden Hodges, Jr. and Mildred Buckler Hodges.
She was preceded death by her loving Weimaraner companion, Boris who was her shadow for 12 years and former husband, Donald Franklin Gladwell. In addition to her mother and daughter, Kimberly Elaine Gladwell, she is survived by her sister, Rebecca (Becky) M Hoeppner and brother-in-law, Charles (Chuck) R Hoeppner; niece Carrie Hodges (Hoeppner) Proudfit, husband Randy and great niece, Emma Grace, Long-time companion & friend, Gilbert (Gib) Boyden, Kim’s significant other half of 20+ years, Jack Welch and her only “grandson”, Levi Franklin Gladwell, a 134 pound Mastiff.
She loved her job with the Department of the Air Force as a Supervisory Protocol Specialist in the 11th Wing Protocol Office, Bolling AFB. She retired with over 40 years of civil service after first starting her government career at Naval Ordnance Station Indian Head. She enjoyed her flower gardens, ponds and in general just “working” in the yard. She was also quite the shopper and she passed this love on to her daughter. Many a road trip was made to various malls & stores over the years by mother & daughter (and Aunt Becky too)! She loved dogs, horses, cats & her goldfish in the backyard pond. She did not like the Johnny Crane that ate several of her goldfish. Her love for animals was shared by her daughter, Kim especially the horse interest. She supported her daughter’s horse interest with great passion and determination; not every parent knows how to hook-up a Pontiac Bonneville to a 2-horse trailer and head to the local County Fair Horse Show with a 1,000 pound horse in tow! Making sure her daughter had an education and a career where she could be self-supportive was her #1 goal. She was extremely proud to see Kim graduate with both a 2-year degree from College of Southern Maryland and later a 4-year BS degree. She was an awesome, devoted and very capable single parent. She always had everything organized and under control whether a work-related function or a family get-together. Heaven has added an exceptional event planner to their staff.
The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home, Indian Head, MD, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, from 10 am to 12:00 pm. Prayer service will begin at noon. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Charles County, P.O Box 1015, Waldorf, MD 20604.
